Women and men all over the world are turning to botox to replenish youthful features, and make them look more relaxed. Botox is among the most popular non-invasive cosmetic enhancement treatments in the world. It is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while preserving the natural movement of the face.
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin A, or purified protein that causes muscles to relax. It is approved for the treatment of crow’s feet (lines around the eyes), as well as glabellar lines, (frown lines between the eyebrows). Botox is a safe and effective treatment that can minimize expression lines that occur when you smile, raise your forehead, or frown.
How does botox work?
Botox works by temporarily blocking the normal nerve signals sent out that cause the muscles to contract. When the wrinkles and lines are injected with small doses of botox the muscles do not contract, instead, they revert to their relaxed position.
What should you Expect with Botox?
Botox injections are very quick, and can take as little as 15 minutes. Botox is injected into targeted muscles using a very fine needle. The injections are not usually painful and anesthesia is not required. However patients can expect to experience some bruising and swelling at the injection site, but these symptoms should clear in a few hours.
There is no downtime required after botox treatment, so most patients return to normal activities shortly afterwards. The face will appear noticeably smoother about 5 days after treatment, however, the full effects will take up to 3 weeks to be seen. The effects of the botox injections last for 4 to 6 months.
Is Botox only used for cosmetic purposes?
Botox is also used for non-cosmetic treatments. It is used to treat excessive sweating, migraines, and muscle spasms.
