If you  think that you  know it all ,   and  have been  dreaming of  a particular plastic surgery procedure,  hang on…..think once again.

After searching through multiple websites, reading hundreds of online forums and blog pages, reading all sorts of magazines and asking everyone who is the best plastic surgeon, do we really have the final answer for ourselves?

Searching for your right plastic surgeon is, perhaps, like how a lady will take her time to choose and inspect her very first Birkin.

Choosing the right plastic surgeon requires you to know a few important pointers

  1. Credentials and Memberships

Do your research! Have you done your homework and know what qualifications he/she has, where he/she is trained, what type of training he/she has undergone, what is specialized in and how many cases he/she has done.

In Singapore, the Plastic Surgeon has to be registered with the Ministry of Health as a Plastic Surgeon and is a member of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons.

Besides being registered locally, he should be registered   as a member with the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and also the International Confederation of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons.

Beside these, there are also many other professional memberships of which one is a member of. These require peer acceptance based on following a strict code of conduct for quality, safety and ethics.

The Plastic Surgeon should also be attending and perhaps presenting papers at international conferences regularly as well as keeping up to date with the latest techniques to ensure that he/she is in the leading front of the others.

  1. Experiences and Reputation

Even with the certifications and memberships, it does not tell it all. Experiences are the most important thing. You need to ask the doctor about his experiences including the number of  cases he/she  has done. Reputation on the doctor is also important.

  1. What Kind of Facilities he/ she uses and Hospital Privileges

Always ensure that you have been given a choice from the plastic surgeon to either perform a surgical procedure at the clinic premises, day surgery or in the hospitals. All plastic surgeons are at least accredited to one hospital and certain procedure does require it to be done at the hospital.

  1. Thoroughness & Rapport

During the consultation, it is important that you get all the needed information for your procedure. The surgeon should give you all your answers and allow you to clear any doubts. You have understood, and know what you are undergoing and knowing all potential risks, complications as well as expected results.  If you do not feel comfortable with your surgeon, do not jump into doing the surgical procedure with him. Continue your search…

The selection of your right Plastic Surgeon will take time for you to research on. However if you do not feel comfortable after you have gone to the selected one, keep searching! Do not jump into what is convenient for you and make a hasty decision.
