A common request I get from my patients is, “I want to look younger, but I’m not ready to go under the knife”. My immediate reply is “Ulthera®!”
In the past, there were only two options to eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and correct sagging on the face: permanent and invasive facelifts, or temporary dermal fillers. These left patients who wanted something in-between with no options. With the advancement in technology, a new treatment is born! Ulthera® provides the best of facelifts and dermal fillers without the limitations.
WHAT IS ULTHERA®?
Ulthera®, also known as Ultherapy®, is a non-invasive, energy based treatment that lifts and tone loose skin without surgery. It uses the body’s own healing response to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
HOW DOES ULTHERA® WORK?
Essentially, the Ulthera® procedure stimulates collagen production by delivering docused ultrasound energy to the skin’s foundational layer typically addressed in plastic surgery, but all without cutting or disturbing the surface of the skin.
ULTHERA® vs. FACELIFT SURGERY
Traditionally, patients who wanted to correct sagging facial skin would have to go under the knife for facelifts, which would require cutting away excess skin and tightening the muscles underneath. Even if it was an endoscopic facelift, which only requires small incisions, it still warrants an extended downtime.
Typically, patients who don’t have sagging caused by drooping of the muscles do not have to undergo an invasive procedure. Ulthera® would be their best alternative, by providing patients with extensive skin tightening without any incisions. There is no downtime, and the results are proven to rival those of a facelift.
ULTHERA® vs. DERMAL FILLERS
On the other side of the spectrum, non-invasive procedures like dermal fillers do not require incisions or extensive recovery periods. They can help to restore lost volume due to aging or other processes, with no downtime. However, the results of dermal fillers are usually temporary, lasting between 3-6 months, and follow up treatments are recommended.
Ulthera® has all the same benefits as dermal fillers—it’s a non-invasive treatment that helps to restore lost volume in the face, and it has no downtime. The only difference is that Ulthera® helps to stimulate natural collagen production in the face which lasts for years.
CANDIDATES FOR ULTHERA®
A good Ulthera® candidate is someone who has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to look and feel less firm. The problem would have to be sagging facial skin and not sagging facial muscles. Patients with sagging facial muscles would be better candidates for facelift. Of course, the best way to find out if you’re a good candidate is to consult with a doctor.
