Rhinoplasty or nose surgery (reshaping) is a procedure in which adjustments are made to the shape and size of the nose. These modifications are carried out to make the nose smaller or larger, contour the nostrils, correct a hump, or augment the nose. This surgery is also done to alleviate breathing problems, or improve facial deformities. What will happen during my nose surgery?
Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, or using local anesthesia with sedation. Surgery may be performed using either open or closed procedures. In closed rhinoplasty surgery, all incisions are made inside the nose. In the case of open rhinoplasty, an incision is also made in the skin that divides the two nostrils. This makes it easier to lift the skin off the tip of the nose.
What you can expect after the surgery
Patients generally go home the same day after surgery. Most patients do not experience any pain after rhinoplasty; however, some post-operative discomfort may occur. Full recovery will take several weeks.
Who is a good candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty should be healthy, and have realistic expectations about surgery. Rhinoplasty is generally recommended for individuals who are dissatisfied with appearance of their nose, because it is inconsistent with other facial features.

How to prepare for the procedure
Before Surgery
1) 1 or 2 days before nose surgery, use a small blunt pair of scissors to trim the nostril hair as much as possible
2) Wash your nostrils to ensure that they are clean and have no mucus
Night before Surgery
1) Wash your face with soap/cleanser
2) Wash your nostrils to ensure that they are clean and have no mucus
3) Ensure you have trimmed all your nostril hair
On the Day of Surgery
1) Wash your face with soap/cleanser
2) Wash your nostrils before you leave home
3) Wash your nostrils at least 30 minutes before you are brought into the operating theatre
