Chin AugmentationChin Augmentation, known medically as Mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is done to reshape the chin, with the use of a solid silicone implant. The procedure is carried out to enhance a weak or recessed chin, and is often done in conjunction with Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping). Chin augmentation will give you a more pronounced chin, and a sharper neckline.

The Chin Augmentation Surgery Procedure

Local anesthesia is generally used for chin augmentation. There are varying types of implants and insertion methods that can be used for chin implant surgery. The incision can be made in the crease beneath the chin, or inside the mouth. The implant is inserted into a midline pocket created for this purpose. Surgery lasts for about 1 hour.

Chin Augmentation Recovery

Chin Implant Surgery

After surgery patients will experience some swelling and bruising, but this is usually short-lived. Full recovery takes about 3 to 4 weeks, but patients generally return to work after 1 week.

Are You a Good Candidate for Chin Augmentation?

If your chin is out of alignment with other facial features such as your nose and forehead, then you would be a good candidate for chin augmentation. The procedure will create an attractive facial structure, and a balanced profile.
