Men, as much as women, take pride in their appearance. Over the past few years, I have seen an increase in demand from men requesting plastic surgery to maintain and restore their youthful and healthy physique. At Dr Marco’s clinic, we tailor treatments for men specifically to the male aesthetic, by considering male anatomy and their goals for treatment all while maintaining a masculine appearance.
Gynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction)
Enlarged male breasts, also called gynecomastia, occur when excess deposits of localized fat accumulate in the chest area. Through tiny incisions, liposuction is used to suction out the fatty tissue, while excess skin is removed and tightened to leave the chest firmer and more contoured. With advances in medical techniques, this condition can be treated in a minimally invasive manner with minimal downtime.
The different grades of Gynecomastia are based on the following: size of breast tissue development, severity of the condition and feminization of the breast.
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Men who have hanging skin folds over the abdomen, hips and flanks and want to improve their shape are good candidates for abdominoplasty. Since the midsection is often one of the hardest areas to eliminate fat through diet and exercise alone, many turn to abdominoplasty for help. Excess skin and fat tissues are removed, while weakened abdominal muscles are tightened to create a masculine profile that is firmer and more defined.
Dr Marco recommends men to go for endoscopic or robotic tummy tuck because men do not usually have excess skin to excise; their condition is usually due to the weakened muscle underneath the skin.
One very important fact to remember about liposuction is that it is a contouring tool, not a weight loss tool. Dr Marco strongly encourages anyone who is considering liposuction to go for diet and exercise first. If that doesn’t help achieve the body you want, then liposuction would be a reasonable adjunct to improve the body’s contour. It can be performed on various areas of the body, including the face, abdomen, thighs, arms, chest, and legs.
Hair loss or thinning hair is a man’s worst nightmare as it eats away at their self-esteem. Thankfully, modern hair transplant techniques like Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) can help to restore thinning hair by redistributing permanent and healthy hairs from the back of the head to the more needy areas such as the front and top. This technique is generally performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with almost no downtime. The results are permanent but it takes about 3 months for new hair to be seen.
Dads can also enjoy other facial procedures such as injections to treat wrinkle & expression lines, dermal filler injections orfat graftingto battle unwanted signs of ageing in the face. Or if they are looking for more a permanent solution, they may opt instead for facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, eyelid lifts, and rhinoplasty.
These procedures are modified for men to create a masculine look, as men tend to have lower brows, stronger chins, larger noses and heavier eyelids than women. All these male traits are considered carefully when choosing male plastic surgery.
