After you have read and learned about how to select your plastic surgeon, the next step is where to have the surgery done.

As we all know, the cost of plastic surgery is not cheap. On top of it, you also have to consider the surgical facility where you want to have your procedure done.

Some may think that it is not important to decide where to have the surgery done. But in truth, it is as critical as choosing your plastic surgeon. Remember, plastic surgery is an elective procedure and is supposed to make you feel good to look good.

Some smaller surgery like double eyelids, eye bag removal surgery, or even a nose job can be done in the plastic surgeon’s clinic or at the Ambulatory Surgical Centre (also known as ASC  or Day Surgery Centre). A medium-size liposuction or breast augmentation can be done in either an ASC or in the hospital. A facelift, extreme makeover liposuction, or tummy tuck surgery must be performed in a hospital.

But how do we choose which will be the best place for us to have the surgery?

Dr Marco shares that plastic surgeons must educate patients on where to do the surgery. Patients will not know what is “safe“ and will follow what the plastic surgeon says. Those who land at the hands of boogie doctors will be left with disastrous outcomes like infections, losing their limbs, or even dying!

According to Dr Marco, a young person with no medical history of any illness and who is fit can have the surgery done in the clinic compared to an older person with a medical history of hypertension or even diabetes.

The best facility to have the surgery is either an ASC or hospital, as it is important and crucial that the surgical procedure is performed in a clean, sterile, and well-equipped medical facility operating theatre. Importantly, the plastic surgeon can operate stress-free with a team of staff around helping in the operating theatre as compared to in some clinics where staffs are limited.

“This is why I always like to do my surgeries in either a hospital as a first choice, if not an ASC.  This is why we have hospitals in Singapore that spend so much money on accreditation and audits like the JCI accreditation. They have regulations, protocols, step-by-step indicators, routine audits and checks. It’s for everyone’s protection,” said Dr Marco.

The take-home message for all?

The final takeaway is that things can go wrong, even how well we planned for it and how many safety precautions are considered. The correct environment will help to avoid any risk or infection. More importantly, they are better equipped to save your life just in time for any emergency. Safety is a team effort.

The common complaints we always hear are about looking tired, early signs of premature lines, and droopy brows with wrinkles. In short –the early signs of ageing.

According to Dr Marco, a brow lift or forehead lift is a plastic surgery procedure performed to overcome the adverse effects of ageing, repetitive muscle activity, and sun exposure on the forehead, brow, upper face, and eyelids area. This procedure helps to correct droopy brows and eyelids and improves the horizontal brow lines. It also smoothens the forehead and any furrows from above the bridge of the nose.

How is the surgery performed?

There are two ways of performing the surgery. Using the traditional incision technique or the minimally invasive surgery technique (MIS) or commonly known as “keyhole surgery” or “endoscopic surgery”.

How is the minimally invasive surgery technique done?

We make three small incisional holes, about 2cm wide, inside the hair-bearing area. With the aid of an endoscope (a slim viewing instrument), the surgery is done. The scars are hidden within the hair.

Surgery Time?

This brow lift surgery, or endoscopic brow lift surgery, takes around 1 to  1 ½ hours and is under local anesthesia with some sedation. It does not require a hospital stay.

Recovery Time?

There will be minimal swelling, and recovery takes around 5 days. Some even go back to work after 3 days.

Having full plump lips has always been considered a sign of good health, beauty, and youth. It doesn’t matter if you were born with thin lips or if your lips are thinning out due to a natural ageing process.

As we age, a loss of volume at the sides of the mouth causes sagging, which gives some people a frowning expression. By adding volume in the right places, we can subtly lift the corners, which not only improves the shape of the lip but also create a happier, more youthful appearance.

Lip enhancement procedures come in many forms: lip injections using synthetic fillers, lip injections using fat grafting, lip implants, and lip lifts. Your surgeon might offer you options based on your aesthetic goals and recovery time frame. It might also be appropriate to have two or more of these procedures to achieve the right look for you.

Injections – Fat Transfer
In fat transfer, fat from your own body can be taken via liposuction from another area of your body and injected into your lips. This is the best way for lip enhancement as it gives a nice soft feel and natural results but may need to be repeated until you get the desired result.

Injections – Fillers
Fillers made from natural or synthetic biocompatible material act as a fat substitute to plump up the lip. One treatment is usually sufficient to produce the desired result. The results, however, may be temporary and require repeat injections.

Surgery – Lip Implants
Lip implants can be inserted through tiny incisions inside the corners of the mouth. There are many natural or synthetic implant options available. Your surgeon will discuss which option is best for you.

Surgery – Lip Lift
Removing extra skin and lifting the lips will help those with loose skin or those with a downward-sloping mouth. To increase the upper lip, an incision is made under the nose, and the skin is shortened to pull up the lips. Other lift techniques can shorten the upper lip to expose more teeth. To lift a downward-turning mouth, small incisions are made on the side of the mouth, and the extra skin is removed. Your surgeon will use thin sutures, removed four to five days later.

There are many different options to enlarge or enhance the size and shape of your lips: fat injections, filler injections, lip implants, and lip lifting. Injections and implants can physically change the plumpness and volume of your lips, while lip lifts can help change the shape of your lips.
